New D365 Finance Currency revaluation posting profile

D365 Finance Currency revaluation posting profile

Until now, it has not been easy to trace currency revaluation transactions per module; out of the box, only per currency and transaction type (four available).

This all changes with the upcoming feature in version 10.0.32: Currency revaluation posting profile.

This feature is excellent! I've been waiting for this; many customers have asked for this over the years.

Foreign currency revaluation is a big part of many companies' end-of-period procedures. So it is, of course, also a topic in my upcoming webinar D365 Finance: Tips & Tricks For A Successful Year-End Close.

With the current features (before version 10.0.32), you could only differ between accounts depending on the currency.

Default accounts would be set up in the General ledger > Setup > Ledger screen for the four transition types. And then, you could do a per currency & transaction type combination override in the General ledger > Currencies > Currency revaluation accounts.

Nothing is possible about the source module.

The currency revaluation posting profile – available from 10.0.32 – helps you to define currency revaluation adjustment accounts to a granular level per currency and per module (General ledger, Accounts payable, Accounts receivable, and Bank).

In addition, it allows you to define the accounts across the modules and then the familiar hierarchy-like Table, Group, or All. Pretty much like we know it from other posting profiles, if they are actually called posting profiles or not. Note the use of the Main account category as the group for main accounts!

And once again, barking up my usual tree, the Main account category again proves its importance. It should really be mandatory when you configure a main account. Sorry.

The Currency revaluation posting profile is on one screen, covering all four modules: General ledger > Currencies > Currency revaluation posting profile.

I can't wait to demonstrate this feature until it is publicly available with 10.0.32. So I will do a bit of show and tell in my upcoming webinar D365 Finance: Tips & Tricks For A Successful Year-End Close. Please register for this webinar, even if you can't attend it live; you will get access to the recording afterward.
