MB6-894 is back!
Much to our surprise, the exam MB6-894 Development, Extensions, and Deployment is back to availability – originally retired by Microsoft on December 31, 2019.
So of course our MB6-894 training offerings are back, too: open classes, training materials, – and online events coming too. Over the years, we have trained hundreds of students in this area, so welcome back MB6-894!
Why is it back then? Not sure, but perhaps the Commerce (old name: Retail) part – missing in the MB-500 – could be the reason…
MB-700 exam is now final
On December 31, 2019, Microsoft announced the certification Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Solution Architect Expert , and the required exam MB-700 was announced as a beta exam in January, 2020.
Microsoft has now announced that the final exam is in place.
MB-500 exam is now final
On October 31, 2019, Exam MB-500: Microsoft Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Developer was released on October 31 as a beta.
Microsoft has now announced that the final exam is in place.
MB-500 is part of the new certification Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Developer Associate, along with the MB-300 Core.
The next final one to arrive will probably be the Exam MB-700: Microsoft Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Solution Architect that was launched as a beta on December 31, 2019.

New certification announced – an Expert one
Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Solution Architect Expert.
This requires passing the above-mentioned exam MB-700 that will not be available until December 31 – and then only in beta. So I wouldn't expect anyone obtaining this first Expert certification until March/April 2020. In fact, we have planned our first MB-700 exam class in March 2020 for the very same reason.
Surely one fine addition to any Dynamics worker CV!
New betas released October 31
Exam MB-500: Microsoft Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Developer might be the replacement for MB6-894 (due to retire end 2019). MB-500 was released on October 31 as beta and is part of the new certification Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365: Finance and Operations Apps Developer Associate, along with the MB-300 Core (as expected).
If this is the only dedicated D365FO developer exam, is yet to be seen. Once again, I wonder about the naming conventions here, as Microsoft late October changed the common name of FO to separate app names of F and the SCM. probably not the last of this never-ending name game.
Another interesting exam, though not directly aimed at D365FO (or whatever) is Exam MB-400: Microsoft PowerApps + Dynamics 365 Developer. MB-400 was released on October 31 as beta and is part of the new certification Microsoft Certified: PowerApps + Dynamics 365 Developer Associate, along with the Exam MB-200: Microsoft Power Platform + Dynamics 365 Core.

The difference between exams and certifications
It is necessary to differentiate between Dynamics 365 FO exams and certifications. Passing an exam or two or whatever leads to a certification; it is, however, two different things and so is the lifecycle.
There are a few misunderstandings around (including my own), and Microsoft doesn’t really provide much help…
It is true that MB6-895 and MB6-896 exams were retired end August 2019.
However, as far as I know, the certifications do not retire just yet. As I remember it, Microsoft standard point of view for retiring certifications is that the certification is retired, when the technology is retired. This will probably also be true for partner compliance, but then you know Microsoft…
As an example, please note – some of – my own current transcripts. The ones for AX 2012 are still Active (the ones for prior technologies like AX 2009 have gone), and the MB-3?? are not graded yet, being in BETA.
New Financial and Supply Chain certificates require 7 days (at least)
Please do note that for the new certification Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant Associate, two tests must be passed: The core MB-300 (exam class MB-300) and the functional MB-310 (exam class MB-310).
Similarly, for the new certification Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Supply Chain Functional Consultant Associate, two tests must be passed: The core MB-300 (exam class MB-300) and the functional MB-330 (exam class MB-330).
New Manufacturing certificates require 7 days (at least)
For the first time with D365FO, a Manufacturing certification is available. For the Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Functional Consultant Associate, two tests must be passed: The core MB-300 (exam class MB-300) and the functional MB-320 (exam class MB-320).
The new MB-3?? are harder than the old MB6-8??
The exam MB-300 is a really tough cookie, and the exams MB-310, MB-320 and MB-330 are no walks in the park either. Rumours and facts have found their way to the market (despite Microsoft being pretty hard on people sharing NDA stuff). Exam duration is now 180-210 minutes, indicating the difficulty. Don't be mislead by the apparently low number of questions, like 30-50.
